How can you work with me long distance? Don’t
you need to see my dog in person?
We don’t need to see your dog barking in order to understand
the problem. You will provide us with the behavioral descriptions
we need to analyze your dog’s behavior and create a plan just
for you and your dog.
In addition to in-person consultations, we’ve been conducting
telephone and email consultation for years on barking and other
behaviors with great success. We take an extensive history of your
animal’s specific problems. We’ll use this to decide
what information we need from you. We may ask you to send pictures,
a video tape or other video media of your dog’s behavior.
During a consultation we will:
- Interview you so we can get to know you,
your dog, and gather details about your dog’s barking behavior.
- Use this information to analyze your dog’s
barking problem.
- Develop, explain, demonstrate (for in-person
consultations) and write down a custom behavior modification plan
for you.
- Follow-up with three months of telephone
or email progress reports so we can help you implement the plans
we’ve given you.
Telephone consultation
We can help you with your dog’s barking problem via a telephone
consult. Requires 1 to 1 ¼ hours. Depending on the type of
problem, we may ask you to send pictures, diagrams, or a videotape
prior to the consultation. The fee of $195 includes 1 to 1 ¼
hours initial consult, written instructions, and 3 months of telephone
follow-up. You will call our office, so long-distance charges may
apply. If your consult goes over 1 ¼ hours you will be charged
$125 per hour pro rated in 15 minute increments.
Email consultation
Email consultations allow us to help anyone, anywhere in the world
who can read and write English. If a telephone consultation isn’t
possible or convenient, an email consultation should be your next
choice. Based on an initial assessment form you’ll complete,
we’ll determine whether your dog’s problem is suitable
for an email consultation. If it is, you’ll receive a detailed
behavior questionnaire and may need to answer additional follow-up
questions about your dog’s behavior. You’ll then be
emailed a specific, detailed behavior modification plan and be entitled
to 3 months of email follow-up with the behaviorist. Fee is $175,
paid by credit card, before you receive your detailed questionnaire.
Brief telephone consultation
These consultations are designed for straightforward questions about
barking behaviors that do not require much analysis. For example,
you might have specific questions after reading our book, about
how to apply our Five Step Positive Proaction Plan© to your
dog’s problem. Or you might need suggestions about what to
tell your neighbors about the behavior modification plan you are
working with. Brief consults do not include written recommendations,
handouts or follow-up. Fee is $35 for 20 minutes, additional time
is charged based on $100/hour.
Office or in-home consultation
If you live in the Denver-metro area, or within driving distance,
then you can have the advantage of meeting with us in person. We
follow the same format as phone or email consultations, however
we can also see your home and your dog, as well as demonstrate the
techniques we want you to use. Fee is $300 for a 2 hour initial
consult and 3 months of telephone followup. We'll determine the
travel cost for an in-home appointment at the time of scheduling.
